The purpose of this webpage is to disseminate information to LASD EMT's.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has been providing trained and certified Emergency Medical Technicians to the citizens of Los Angeles County for many years. Although the program is primarily designed for the Department's eight search and rescue teams, many personnel assigned to other specialized units are also trained as EMT'S. These include the special weapons team, dive team, search dog team, patrol boat teams, beach teams and narcotics units.
Sheriff's Department EMT'S are highly trained individuals who can be mobilized at a moments notice in the event of any disaster. Most of the personnel are Reserve Deputies, but regular (full-time) personnel are also trained in this intensive program. Each LASD EMT takes and maintains their EMT certification at their own expense.
The training consists of over 100 hours of combined classroom and practical skills. Additionally, every two years, each EMT must undergo a 24 hour refresher course and recertification test of their knowledge and skills, and must always maintain currency of their CPR certification.
